City Water and Light is the utility provider for the citizens of Jonesboro, but our service to the community extends beyond utilities. CWL and its employees support activities that cultivate growth and enhanced quality of life in Jonesboro and the surrounding area. A commitment to citizenship is the heart of City Water and Light’s core values. Our vision is based on a very simple premise. The quality of life in our community directly affects the success of our business. As a utility, we want to be judged not only by the service we provide, but also for what we do to improve the quality of life for all people in the places where we live and work.
Giving back to our customers is one way CWL honors its commitment to be a citizen. Our giving begins with several free services being provided for the citizens of Jonesboro. These include free electric, water and wastewater services to the City, discounts on services to public schools located in Jonesboro, cash payments in lieu of taxes to the City and public schools, free fire hydrants, and free street lights.
City Water and Light, being an improvement district, does not make charitable donations; however, CWL employees saw the need to support charities in Jonesboro and many years ago formed an employee committee that conducts fund raisers and donates the funds to non-profit organizations that enhance the quality of life for those in need. All employee giving is decided by the committee. The organizations they support are as diverse as the people they assist.
Employee charitable donations primary areas of focus through the years have been the United Way of Northeast Arkansas, the Jonesboro Church Health Center, the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, Habitat for Humanity, Make-A-Wish, and many others.
Many employees also hold leadership positions on nonprofit boards. Request from nonprofit organizations seeking employees to serve in leadership roles are individually evaluated, based on employee availability and interest and the organization’s compatibility with the utilities focus.
CWL employees come to work each day dedicated not only to providing the best utility service, but also committed to improving the quality of life in our community.
